Our Foundation: Teamwork & Communication
In water polo, you can be the best player in the world, but you can't win a game by yourself. It takes every single person on the team working together. Think of our team like a machine—if one part isn't working, the whole thing breaks down. Teamwork means you trust the person next to you, and they trust you. It means passing the ball, helping on defense, and cheering for your teammates, whether we are winning or losing.
Communication is the oil that makes our team machine run smoothly. You need to talk in the water. Call for the ball. Let a teammate know you're open. Tell them you're there to help on defense. Out of the water, communication means talking to your coaches and your teammates with respect. A team that talks is a team that wins.
Arrive hydrated and stay hydrated.
The Edison Way: Player Expectations
Being on this team is more than just playing a sport. You are representing your family, your school, and our community. We have high expectations for how you act in and out of the pool.
Be Present and Committed: Your team is counting on you. Plan to be at ALL practices and games. If you cannot be there, YOU, the player need to notify YOUR coach (Mr. Bernyk, Girls, Mr. Vinson, Boys) in advance through a message on Teams or by Email.
Positive Attitude Only: Bring a positive attitude to the pool every single day. Be ready to learn, work hard, and support everyone around you. Complaining doesn't make you better, but hard work does. And a positive attitude goes a long way.
Respect Everyone: Treat your teammates, coaches, opponents, and parents with respect. There is absolutely NO foul language. This applies both in the classroom and on the water polo field.
Respect the Game: You will not interact with the referees. Do not yell at them, complain about a call, or even give them a dirty look. Interacting with the referees is the coaches' job.
Be On Time, prepared: The bus won't wait. Being on time means being 5 minutes early. This shows respect for your coaches and your teammates. Also, come prepared with all the needed equipment. (Bring your suit to school every day, just in case :)
Be ONE Team: Take the time to learn every single one of your teammates' names. Participate fully in all our team-building activities. We succeed together and we fail together.

We are student-athletes
As student-athletes, our primary focus is education. Maintaining good grades is essential for your overall success, both in the classroom and in water polo. If you’re struggling in a class, don’t hesitate to seek help from teachers or classmates. Also, your behavior matters. Show respect to teachers and classmates, participate actively, and demonstrate a strong work ethic. Remember, your actions represent the entire team.
Let's get to work. This is going to be a fantastic season if we commit to each other and to playing the Edison Way.
Go Tigers!
