SWIM TEAM POSTPONED UNTIL AFTER SPRING BREAK
Fresno Unified, alongside several of our neighboring school districts, have been actively monitoring the changing conditions surrounding COVID-19. Following the declaration of a national emergency by our President on March 13 and a declaration of a state of emergency by Governor Newsom on March 4th, Fresno Unified has made the extremely difficult decision to close all schools for students beginning Monday, March 16th through April 13th, which is when our district is regularly scheduled to return from spring break. This includes all early learning and adult school activities as well. We are optimistic that we will resume classroom instruction after spring break, but we will continue to evaluate what is best for our kids and community.
COMPUTECH
SWIM TEAM
A QUARTER 4 SPORT
We are glad you are interested in joining Computech’s Swim Team. Our team is part of the CVAL league, and we swim against middle school swimmers from Central, Kerman, Madera, Selma, Reedley, and Sanger districts.
Our swim team is a no-cut sport. If you are interested, we’d love for you to join! No prior swim team experience required. Swim is officially a quarter 4 sport.
Practices are after school most days at the Edison Pool (just to the North of our Gym). You will be dismissed in time to catch the 4:20 bus routes or return to the After School Program. Your coaches, Mr. Vinson and Mr. Bernyk, will work with you to improve your technique and skill in four competitive swim strokes:

Remember, as student-athletes, your academics come first. We expect all of our student-athletes to maintain good grades. Should your grades slip, your coaches will encourage you to improve your grades in order to remain able to participate on the team.
SWIM MEETS
Your coaches will enter you into upto three events at each swim meet. Most of our after school swim meets officially start at 3:30 PM, however you will have time to warm up before the meet starts. You will be assigned events to swim, and be told the lane for each event you will swim. Events might be individual events, or relays with 3 of your teammates competing.
We value improvement over being the fastest. In fact, your coaches will keep records of your times throughout the season and encourage you to do the same- so we can all see your improvement from week to week. We do not expect anybody to be the fastest swimmer ever, but we do look for growth in both technique and speed throughout the season.
We host an EXTRA FUN swim meet on March 28, called the Edison Relays. In addition to normal swim events, you will have the chance to swim a POOL MATTRESS RELAY, a T-SHIRT SWAP, and other fun events.
The absolute MOST IMPORTANT swim meet to attend is FINALS on MAY 2 in KERMAN. The results of swim finals dictate the entire season’s results! Please make sure you are able to attend.

Parent Information
When practice or a meet is over, your athlete is clean, exhausted, and hungry. That’s much different than America’s other past times, where game times are longer, very sweaty, and sometimes not always active. And swimming is FUN!
We NEED your help to run our swim meets! Parents run the scoring system, keep official time at each lane, and run the snack bar to fundraise for our team’s needs. We need a minimum of 15-20 people to help run each swim meet- which truly means we CANNOT do it without you. Instead of heading up to the bleachers, we hope you will take the best seat in the house.... behind the starting blocks in the shade to help time that lane.
We are hosting two Saturday swim meets at Edison this season. March 7 we are hosting our CVAL LEAGUE INVITATIONAL and March 28 we are hosting our second annual EDISON RELAYS swim meet. Both of these events are HUGE undertakings.
Also, although we need your swimmer at all of our swim meets, the absolute most important swim meet is on Saturday, May 2. Swim Finals is the culmination of work the entire season, and is the event that determines league championship. We were league champions last year, and need your swimmer to be able to aim for that accolade again this season.
